We don’t talk about Bruno.

We don’t talk about Bruno.
Here’s a list of other things we don’t talk about.
We don’t talk about blatant underachievers.
We don’t talk about sexual harassment.
We don’t talk about civics.
We don’t talk about race.
We don’t talk about inclusion.
We don’t talk about when it’s okay to exclude.
We don’t talk about the person who is blunt but right.
We don’t talk about our own self-righteousness.
We don’t talk about the speck in our own eye.
We don’t talk about the speck in someone else’s that we could remove easily.
We don’t talk about the wide gulf between us.
We don’t talk about what it takes to build bridges.
We don’t talk about gluttony.
We don’t talk about apathy.
We don’t talk about being invited to the table but being ignored once you’re there.
We don’t talk about patriotism when we see it and call it beautiful.
We don’t talk about toxic patriotism when we see it and call it out.
We don’t talk about what’s causing poor mental health.
We don’t talk about how to have better mental health.
We don’t talk about emotional trauma.
There's a long list about what we don't talk about.
Yet we seem to talk a lot about other things.
But when we talk about certain things, we hear things we don’t want to hear. Someone pushes back. It doesn’t feel safe. It shuts us down. Or turns us angry. Or fizzles out and doesn’t go anywhere.
So we don’t talk about it anymore.
Our silence causes our foundation to crack.
Our silence causes people to live within our walls but not belong.
Our silence is just as toxic as the things we are silent about.
So let’s talk.
But
We can also talk about forgiveness.
We can also talk about reconciliation.
We can also talk about grace.
We can also talk about love.
We can also talk about hope.
We can also talk about relationships.
We can also talk about healing.
We can also talk about learning.
We can also talk about growth.
We can also talk about life.
For when we do and we listen actively, we truly start living into who we are a called and created to be.
Until Everyone Hears,
Dr. K
P.S. - You may have noticed I didn’t mention talking about God. I believe that when we talk about “the things we don’t talk about” with the “things we can also talk about” that God is present. It is in those moments that we embody the incarnational nature of the Word that became flesh. But if you also want to talk about God, I’m ALWAYS eager to do so. Let me know and I’ll meet you for coffee or quesadillas, in person or virtually. That invitation will always be an option as long as I'm breathing.
James 1:19 - New International Version
My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry,
(But James doesn't say not to do it...just how)
