Waiting is Hard
How Long O Lord?
I ordered a new desk just before Christmas. It was an L shaped desk that was more streamlined than my old one and it had a part of it that could be raised and lowered so that I could either sit or stand at it.
When I ordered it, the delivery date was only a week or so away. Four weeks later, ½ of my desk arrived. The other ½ was still in Pennsylvania waiting to be shipped.
We went ahead and put the ½ we did have together (and by “we” I mean our facilities manager and assistant who does these things much faster and without swearing). It was beautiful! I couldn’t wait for the other ½ to get here.
That was 7 weeks ago. Still no desk. I’ve called. Multiple times. It seems it is in stock somewhere. But they have no idea when it will arrive. So I have two options: 1) wait or 2) take the other ½ apart and bring it back to the local store. Since I don’t really want to take it apart and be deskless, I’m waiting.
Waiting can be hard. Frustrating. But it is inevitable. We will always be waiting for something. Sometimes it feels like we are waiting on God. Will God answer my prayer? How long O Lord? It feels like forever sometimes. But my guess is that God asks the same of us - will we go where we are called to go? How long until we do what God is calling us to do?
I’m glad God has more patience with me than I do for the other ½ of my desk I’m glad that God doesn’t ask us to wait forever but does answer prayers in His own way and time.
Waiting is hard but finding ways to wait gracefully is transforming. May we always wait for God. That wait is worth it.
“but those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.”
