This is the card catalog section of the Library of Congress. There are 22 million cards here. No new cards have been added since 1980. These cards remain only as a reminder of they way things used to be. While we may have lost the tactile joy of searching through these drawers, we’ve gained the capacity to store more books, research, and information than we could in 1980.
Honoring the past doesn’t mean doing things the same way. It means appreciating the mission enough to find the best ways to fulfill it.
