Prepare

Faith, prayer, prepare

When we thinking about preparing a way for someone, we often think exclusively of clearing the path. Getting rid of debris.  Making sure there are no dangers in the road ahead.

But preparation isn’t just about clearing the path. It is also about making the path one that is worthy of traveling on. Who will we meet along the path? Are there people cheering the way? Is the path beautiful, reflecting the glory of the creation of God?

During Advent we think about spiritually preparing for Christ’s return. We ask for forgiveness and we wait in the stillness. But there’s another aspect: preparing for joy.

Sometimes  the decorations of Christmas get criticized as adding to the cultural, commercial aspect of Christmas. But if it brings you joy, build them up. Let everything that you do prepare the way for God.

“It shall be said, “Build up, build up, prepare the way, remove every obstruction from my people's way.””

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭57:14‬ ‭NRSV‬‬
