A tottering fence

Psalm 62:3 says,

"How long will ye imagine mischief against a man? Ye shall be slain all of you: As a bowing wall shall ye be, and as a tottering fence".

I’ve felt like a tottering fence before. Looking strong, trying to keep things together but one swift wind comes along and all of it falls apart. How do we guard ourselves from turning into a tottering fence and live into our purpose? What do you do to keep your fence in good shape?

  1. Start with great materials. Some last longer than others. Choose wisely.
  2. Make sure the posts are firmly grounded. Every so often make sure you pause and ground yourself. Spend time with God so that you can weather future storms.
  3. Seal and stain. Extend the life of your fence. Sealing in that time with God through service allows the lesson to seep into your soul and stay there longer.
  4. Inspect. Where are things wearing down? How is it with your soul?

As with most analogies, it isn’t perfect but you can get the picture. Care for your soul. And in doing so you’ll find that you need to care for others in the process. Not attending to your soul will certainly cause you to “totter.”

Until Everyone Hears,
