Grace and #HolyMischief

Grace is what #HolyMischief is all about!
The movie "Elf" has a great line: "there's room for everyone on the nice list."
It is a great line. It gives a balm to a world that lives in full color but is described in black and white. We often treat the world in linear absolutes.
Naughty or nice.
Good or evil.
Right or wrong.
Traditional or innovative.
This way or that way.
My way or your way.
Rarely do we live into the diversity that is "our way."
That is unless you live in a world of grace. A world where we are both saint AND sinner. Where we aren't worthy to receive the goodness of God. Where we respect the past and live into new ideas. A world where there is right, wrong, and an infinite number of things in between.
This week the challenge was to do something generous for someone you would place on the "naughty" list. Because the reality is that there is still a part of them that God sees as good and beautiful and wonderful. That person is also made in the image of God and God sees them in a different way than you might.
So make room for people who may actually be on the nice list after all. For when you do, you may just find yourself on the nice list as well.

8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.

I love the line “Because the reality is that there is still a part of them that God sees as good and beautiful and wonderful. That person is also made in the image of God and God sees them in a different way than you might.”
We are all multi-faceted jewels, like diamonds, and we may only see God’s light shining through only one or two facets at a time. God creates and fills the whole diamond with light that sparkles much more brightly that we can imagine.
