MOG Day 15 – Good Works
Don’t fool yourself into thinking that you are a listener when you are anything but, letting the Word go in one ear and out the other. Act on what you hear! Those who hear and don’t act are like those who glance in the mirror, walk away, and two minutes later have no idea who they are, what they look like.
James 1:22-24 The Message
I love the end of the movie Evan Almighty when God tells Evan that building the ark was about doing one Act of Random Kindness at a time. Then God says, “Let me ask you something. If someone prays for patience, you think God gives them patience? Or does he give them the opportunity to be patient? If he prayed for courage, does God give him courage, or does he give him opportunities to be courageous? If someone prayed for the family to be closer, do you think God zaps them with warm fuzzy feelings, or does he give them opportunities to love each other?”
Many of us are searching for inspiration, hope, and a way to be connected and therefore fulfilled. We pray and we ask and we always end up disappointed because we are looking for the wise men to deliver these gifts to us like they did to the sweet baby Jesus.
.But its not gonna happen that way. We’ve gotta take some ownership that God gave us brains and bodies to use to make this world a better place. Even our world.
So today, go and do some random act of kindness. It might not save the world from a flood but it will connect you to someone else and let you be an inspiration and hope for that person. I’m NOT saying this is Karma and we should make a “My Name Is Earl” list. I’m saying that when your perspective and reaction to doing good deeds changes, then you change too.
Until Everyone Hears,
