Discounts

Give to the emperor the things that are the emperor’s, and to God the things that are God’s. Mark 12:17

I love a good discount. Not because I’m such a great bargain shopper, but because I feel like I’m special when I get a deal. I know that everyone can get the same deal I do but I have paid full price enough times to know that when I get a deal, I should really appreciate it.

Money is one of those tricky topics in the church. Most people don’t want to pay full price for Jesus. They want to give and not be guilted into a certain amount. Its pretty clear that 10% is the suggested donation but most people would really like a good discount most of the time.

What I see in this scripture here is that its not about the money. Sure Jesus wants us to change the world and that often involves money, but what he really wants is our attitude to change. Pay your taxes and try to get the best deals there that you can. Give back to God what He deserves. I promise you can’t out give Him and any amount you give will be a great deal in return.
