I’M DEBT FREEEEEEEE!

“So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.” John 8:36

I’m a huge Dave Ramsey fan! You’ll often hear me say “I’m better than I deserve.” or “If you want something you’ve never had, you’ll have to do something you’ve never done before.”

I think I like him so much for two reasons:

1) He really does give advice my grandma would give me.
2) His quotes can be applied to spiritual aspects as well (most of the time he references the Bible for good spending habits)

Lets face it – debt is dumb. Not that most people don’t have it but the idea of working to earn money before you pay for something is so much smarter. When you have debt, it is always hanging over you. Its always there saying “pay me! pay me!”. When we are debt free, so many more possibilities open up to us.

When Jesus says “you will be free indeed,” he’s not talking about traditional slavery, debt, or imprisonment. Jesus paid the debt for us with his life. Spiritually we are fallen. We’re made with more free will than we deserve and we all will mess up. We really should be indebted to someone for all of our screw-ups, but Jesus came along and gave us a spiritual plastectomy and said “YOU’RE DEBT FREEEEEEEE!!”

So enjoy you’re freedom – its better for you than you deserve.
