H-U-M-B-L-E”
God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble. Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, so that he may exalt you in due time. 1 Peter 5:5b-6
Charlotte’s Web is one of my favorite stories. It was the first book I ever cried reading. It was also the first time I understood what the word “humble” meant. Of course at the time I thought that it had something to do with saving someone. Charlotte saved Wilbur after she spun “humble” for him. Then I thought maybe it meant something about sacrifice. Charlotte died soon after and many sacrifices were made so that her memory could be honored.
But at last I finally understood humble to be “not bragging.” We all have gifts. Wilbur’s gift was making friends. Charlotte’s gift was helping others. So there’s no need to be proud of ourselves when these gifts are natural talents we are given by God.
Later I understood sacrifice and saving to be another part of being humble. Humble people look out for others and when we put others first because we love God, then God is exalted.
Use your gifts and feel humbled that you have them.
